Wedding Photography: Top 10 Permit Free Location
Are you looking for spots around Melbourne to take your wedding photography? One thing to note while planning for the location is how many locations you plan to travel to and the distance between each one. You don’t want to spend too much time travelling from one location to the next with only a limited time to shoot.
Wedding Photography Permit
Some locations, unfortunately, charge for a permit to photograph at the location but lucky for you, we’re listing down the ones which are free.
Here are the top 10 best wedding photography locations:
City Locations
RMIT Building
Want to take a photo with great historical architecture? Situated right at the corner of La Trobe St. and Russell St. in Melbourne’s CBD, RMIT University’s Melbourne Magistrates' Court, and City Watch-house have been acknowledged as architecturally and historically significant by the Heritage Council. It is a great spot for photo opportunities with a history that dates back to 1842.
Flinders Street Station
This location is popular for couples as the iconic building offers history and beautiful architecture. It will be crowded and your photos will have random people in the background, but with a touch of creativity, one can try to make that work.
Docklands
If you’re looking for a modern background, then Docklands is the place for you. Docklands is a modern harbour development with high rise buildings and is where the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel lives. If you go there at night, the lights will give your pictures an interesting flare.
Hosier Lane
Are you a graffiti enthusiast or want to include Melbourne’s art in your wedding photos? Then Hosier Lane can do that for you. Capture that hint of fun and colour at Hosier Lane where the walls are filled with graffiti. One thing to note is that this spot is a tourist spot, so there will be a crowd present.
Beach
Luna Park
‘Luna Park is an iconic amusement park located in St Kilda, Melbourne, with unique rides, delicious food, and holiday events for the perfect family fun day.’ This spot is pretty quiet in the morning, so it’s perfect to have a photography session here. You don’t really need to go inside to shoot but instead utilise the front gate for a fun background.
Brighton Beach
This spot is pretty popular for tourists with the iconic 82 brightly coloured wooden beach boxes lined up perfectly. There are a few venues close by if your big day is around the area, then it’d be perfect to hit this spot. As it is popular, there will be a massive crowd that awaits.
Parks
St Kilda Botanical Gardens
Don’t worry about passersby as the Garden is pretty massive to shoot at. The hedge walls and gazebos near the rose garden are a perfect spot to shoot at. Great to note that there are public toilets around.
Carlton Gardens
There’s plenty of space to choose from to shoot. This garden is a very popular spot for couples and comes with the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum just a walk away. If you are looking for more than nature, then the exhibition building and museum will give you plenty of texture to capture that beautiful wedding photo.
Fitzroy Gardens
There’s plenty of open spaces for you to take pictures here, with a long avenue of trees and little hidden spots. Before you head here, make sure to check the permit as we are not 100% sure of the rules as they are vague but wedding photography is okay in the gardens. Also, keep in mind that November and March is a busy month and Fitzroy Gardens might be filled with other couples trying to capture that perfect photo.
Albert Park
We do love lakes, and Albert Park has a lake that offers beautiful photography opportunities with the Melbourne city skyline behind the lake itself. You will be surrounded by plenty of nature! There are many wedding reception venues close by making it easy to travel to if your venue is in the area.
